Branca Menta is a sweeter, mint-flavored variation of the classic Italian bitter liqueur Fernet-Branca. It was developed in the 1960s after young drinkers started adding peppermint syrup to their Fernet-Branca.

  • Flavor: Branca Menta is intensely minty and refreshing, with a cooling menthol effect that balances the underlying bitter, herbal complexity of the original Fernet-Branca. Tasting notes often mention eucalyptus, peppermint candy, and balsamic hints, finishing with a pleasant bitter bite.
  • Ingredients: While the exact recipe remains a trade secret, it is known to be made from a base of more than 27 herbs and spices sourced globally, including saffron, myrrh, chamomile, and gentian root. The key difference is the addition of high-quality essential oil of peppermint from Piedmont, Italy, which is considered the finest in the world.
  • Alcohol Content: It typically has a lower alcohol by volume (ABV) than the original Fernet-Branca, generally around 28% ABV compared to Fernet-Branca’s 35-40%.
  • Aging: Like the classic, it is aged for over a year in handmade oak barrels, allowing the flavors to integrate before the mint is added.

Branca Menta is a versatile liqueur that can be enjoyed in various ways: 
  • Neat or on the rocks: Best served strictly iced, as the cold temperature enhances its refreshing minty flavor.
  • As a digestif: It is widely considered an excellent after-dinner drink to aid digestion.
  • Mixed drinks: A popular choice in countries like Argentina is mixing it with Coca-Cola, known as “Fernet con Coke” or “Fernet Koka”. It also pairs well with tonic water in a “Mintonic” cocktail or simply with Sprite.
  • In coffee: Some suggest trying it in a cappuccino for an Italian twist on Irish coffee.
