History
The original recipe for Amaro Averna was gifted to Salvatore Averna, a textile merchant, by a Benedictine monk named Fra Girolamo at the Abbazia di Santo Spirito in Caltanissetta, Sicily, in 1868. The Averna family produced the liqueur for four generations until the company was acquired by Gruppo Campari in 2014. In December 2025, Illva Saronno announced its acquisition of Amaro Averna from Campari Group.
