An Italian Sambuca from Ramazzotti. Classically intense and well flavoured with big, sweet notes of anise and complex herbal touches. Enjoy over ice or neat with three coffee beans for a traditional serve.
- Flavor Profile:Â The dominant flavor is sweet black licorice, attributed to star anise, with additional notes of fennel seeds, cloves, cinnamon, and coriander. It has a full-bodied, smooth, and often viscous texture.
- Appearance:Â The classic (Blanco/White) version is a crystal clear liqueur. A “Black” version also exists, which is slightly thicker and may have richer notes, including elderberry.
- Alcohol Content:Â Typically 38% ABV (alcohol by volume) for the classic white version, and up to 40% ABV for the black version.Â
- Neat or On the Rocks:Â Often served chilled or over ice as a digestif after a meal.
- “Con la Mosca”:Â The classic serving style involves serving it neat with three roasted coffee beans floating in the glass, which represent health, happiness, and prosperity.
- In Coffee:Â A popular late-night option is to mix it into espresso for an alcoholic pick-me-up.
- In Cocktails:Â Its strong flavor makes it a good ingredient in various cocktails, such as a Sambuca Martini, a Sambuca Sour, or mixed with soda or orange juice. It can also be louched (mixed with ice water) like absinthe to enhance the anise flavor.Â
