Pagès Verveine du Velay Verte (Green) is a historic, 55% ABV French herbal liqueur produced in Le Puy-en-Velay since 1859. Crafted from over 30 botanicals—centered around lemon verbena—it is macerated, distilled in copper stills, and aged in oak barrels. It serves as a bright, citrusy alternative to Green Chartreuse.Â
Profile & Tasting Notes
- Color & ABV: Vibrant green hue and 55% ABV (110 Proof).
- Nose: Bright lemon verbena, fresh mountain herbs, citrus oils, and cooling menthol.
- Palate: Crisp and lifted, balancing a light sweetness with pine, aniseed, and a peppery, herbal complexity.
- Finish: Refreshing, cooling, and exceptionally long.Â
Production
The lemon verbena used in the recipe is grown locally by the Pagès distillery, hand-harvested, dried, and stripped by hand. The botanical blend is macerated in fine brandy and neutral alcohol, distilled in copper stills, and matured for up to 18 months in French oak casks before being blended with honey, sugar, and water.Â
How to Drink
- Neat/Digestif: Traditionally served neat, at room temperature, or over ice as an after-dinner digestif.
- Cocktails: Makes an excellent, brighter substitute for Green Chartreuse in classic recipes like the Last Word, Bijou, or Verdant Lady.
- Highball: Combine it with lime and ginger beer, or simply lengthen it with tonic and lemon.
