The quintessentially English summertime drink. We love Pimm’s, and nothing better than a Number 1 cup on a hot summer’s day, made with cucumber, lemon, strawberries, mint and good quality lemonade. Pimm’s itself has a gin base, and offers subtle spices and citrus flavours. Delicious!
- Base Spirit: Gin.
- Flavor Profile: Complex and fruity, with notes of bittersweet caramelised orange, fresh citrus, herbs, and spices.
- Alcohol Content: Typically 25% ABV (alcohol by volume) in its bottled form. Pre-mixed canned versions with lemonade are also available at a lower ABV (around 5.4%).
- History: Created in London in 1840 by James Pimm, an oyster bar owner, who initially served it as a digestive aid in a small tankard called the “No. 1 Cup”.
- 1 part Pimm’s No. 1
- 3 parts chilled English-style sparkling lemonade (or ginger ale/lemon-lime soda for a variation)
- Plenty of ice
- Fresh garnishes: cucumber slices, orange slices, strawberries, and a sprig of fresh mint.
- Fill a large jug or highball glass with ice.
- Pour in the Pimm’s No. 1.
- Top with chilled lemonade.
- Add the garnishes (fruits, cucumber, and mint) and gently stir.
