Originally created in 1928 by Firmin Filliers, Filliers Dry Gin 28 also uses 28 botanicals in addition to juniper. It is a small batch gin created in copper stills.
The Filliers family had been producing jenever, gin’s ancestor, in Belgium since the 19th century and adding gin to their repertoire was perhaps the next logical step. Today, their gin is still made with a secret blend of citrus fruits, herbs and roots.
- Nose: Strong citrus and coriander, with a backbone of juniper and fresh notes of cardamom.
- Palate: Bright citrus notes alongside the juniper. The juniper is mild and slightly sweeter than expected.
- Finish: Dry and clean.
- Balanced: A well-rounded gin without any single botanical being overpowering.
- Smooth: Described as gentle and mild.
- Understated: While classic, it’s noted as not being overlooked, and is a tasty option.
- Versatile: Can be enjoyed neat or with a mixer like Fever-Tree tonic.
- Slightly Sweet: Reviewers mention a slightly sweeter characteristic compared to other gins.
