Hayman’s decided to create the Royal Dock Navy Strength Gin following demand for higher strength spirits from bartenders and is named after the old Naval base in Deptford, East London.
- Nose:Â Aromatic with citrus, particularly orange, and prominent juniper. Some reviews mention pine and floral notes like orange blossom.
- Palate:Â A powerful, intense flavor with zesty orange and piney juniper at the forefront. It has a thick, creamy mouthfeel with hints of spices, coriander, angelica, and sometimes sweet notes like liquorice or violet.
- Finish:Â Long and lingering with enduring citrus and juniper, followed by a pleasant, warm heat and floral or spicy notes.Â
- Cocktails:Â Highly recommended for cocktails, especially those that need a strong gin, like a Negroni or an Aviation. It is also great in a classic Gimlet or a Pink Gin.
- Gin and Tonic:Â Works well, but some suggest the regular strength gin is a better option for a standard G&T. However, it holds its own in a G&T, especially when mixed with tonic and lime.
- Food Pairing:Â The robust flavors can stand up to and complement spicy Indian food.Â
- Balanced and intense:Â A well-balanced gin despite its high proof, offering a complex and layered taste without being overpowering.
- Versatile:Â A great all-around mixing gin that performs well in a variety of cocktails.
- Good value:Â Often considered a good value for a navy strength gin of this quality.Â
