Ursus is a clean, refreshing Dutch vodka, which you might know as the spirit at the heart of Ursus Roter. What are those polar bears doing on the label? Just chillin’.
- Origin and Production: The original recipe was developed by a traditional Icelandic distilling family in the early 20th century. Since 1995, it has been distilled and bottled in Hoorn, Netherlands, by the Ursus Vodka Company N.V. (acquired by Diageo in 2004). It is crafted from fine grain spirit and pure water.
- Classic Ursus Vodka: This is the traditional, triple-distilled, unflavored grain vodka, characterized by its smooth, crisp, and clean finish, making it highly mixable. It typically has an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 40%.
- Ursus Roter: This unique product is the only red vodka on the market, blending pure Ursus vodka with the subtle sweetness of natural sloe berries (often referred to as blueberries in some regions). It has a lower ABV, typically around 21-22% vol, and is a popular choice for cocktails or enjoyed straight or on the rocks due to its fruity profile.Â
- Ursus Classic: Notes often include subtle hints of pastry dough, whipped cream, and a peppery spice finish.
- Ursus Roter: Presents a fresh, soft, and subtle fruity flavor with notes of cranberry/sloe berries and a clean, refreshing finish.Â
