A sweet, flavourful Old Tom Gin from Zuidam’s Dutch Courage series, made with juniper, sweet orange, fresh whole lemons, coriander, angelica, liquorice, whole vanilla beans, elderflower and iris root. It’s then set aside to age in American oak barrels for a short while before bottling. Also, it has a rather daring-looking cat wearing a moustache, monocle and a top hat on the label. Which is rad.
- Fresh juniper and citrus (orange, lemon)
- Spices reminiscent of baking cookies, including cinnamon and clove
- A subtle layer of malt
- Hints of vanilla and toasted oak from the barrel aging
- A whisper of orange liqueur
- Initial: Prominent citrus and orange notes with a noticeable sweetness from brown sugar
- Mid-palate: Juniper is present but balanced, accompanied by spicy elements like ginger and licorice, along with vanilla
- Finish: Lingering sweetness and juniper, with notes of vanilla and toasted oak spice
- Style: A rich, complex Old Tom gin that bridges the gap between genever and modern dry gin
- Sweetness: Fairly sweet due to the malting process and aging, but balanced by spices and citrus
- Versatility: Excellent for both sipping neat or on ice, and for use in classic cocktails that benefit from its character, such as a Martinez
- Quality: Often praised as a great value, high-quality gin with a refined and smooth character
